My school is Min Bang Tong Yuan Primary School in the Zhabei District of Shanghai where Iteach 2nd and 3rd graders. Without any expectations but somewhat nervous, I went to school. I didn't know what to expect and what to do in class, as I had no idea of their English level. Luckily the English teacher of my first class helped me out by letting the students introduce themselves, they told me their names, age, what they like to do and what they like to eat. The teacher told me that I can use my own book, so I was not expected to do regular lessons. I decided to teach a different subject every week and use powerpoint presentations so that they could see a lot of pictures. I want my lessons to be as interactive as possible and ask them a lot of questions, to the whole class or individually. Especially to those who don't always say something so they can learn to speak English. Because my lessons are so interactive, I actually think I teach them a lot. Sometimes I see the ones who are really keen on learning, writing down the new words I taught them, so I really hope they can benefit. The children give me warm welcomes and goodbeys and say hi when they meet me in the hallways at school. My time in China is really a big and unique experience, being so close to Shanghainese school children, working with lovely people and it's fun to hang around with the other volunteers.
